El Salvador’s President Says He Won’t Release Maryland Man Back To U.S.

President Donald Trump’s top advisers and Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador, said Monday that they had no basis for the small Central American nation to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongly deported there last month. Trump administration officials emphasized Abrego Garcia, who was sent to a notorious gang prison in El Salvador, was a citizen of that country and the U.S. has no say in his future. And Bukele, who has been a vital partner for the Trump administration in its deportation efforts, said he does not “have the power to return him to the United States.” The Supreme Court has called for the Trump administration to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return.

A man who authorities say scaled an iron security fence in the middle of the night, eluded police and broke into the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion where he set a fire is being treated at a hospital after an unrelated medical event. Authorities say Cody Balmer had planned to beat Gov. Josh Shapiro with a small sledgehammer early Sunday. A police affidavit released Monday says Balmer of Harrisburg “admitted to harboring hatred” toward Shapiro. The fire left significant damage and forced Shapiro, his family and guests to evacuate the building early Sunday. Balmer's mother tells The Associated Press she tried to get him mental health treatment recently, but “nobody would help.”

NYC Sightseeing Company Ceasing Operations Immediately After Deadly Crash

The Federal Aviation Administration says the helicopter tour company whose sightseeing chopper crashed in New York, killing six people, is shutting down operations immediately. The FAA said Sunday that it would launch an immediate review of New York Helicopter Tours’ operating license and safety record. The move came hours after New York Sen. Chuck Schumer called on federal authorities to revoke the company's operating permits. Its sightseeing helicopter broke apart in midair and plunged into the Hudson River Thursday, killing a family of five visiting from Spain and the pilot, a Navy SEAL veteran. Inquiries to New York Helicopter Tours were not returned.

Intruder Arrested At UnitedHealthcare Headquarters In Minnesota

A person has been arrested near UnitedHealthcare’s headquarters after reports of an intruder. The arrest Monday came months after the company's CEO was killed. Police in the Minneapolis suburb of Minnetonka say the suspect was arrested outside of the United Healthcare corporate campus. The Minnetonka Police Department confirmed the arrest after initially tweeting just before 11:30 a.m. that there was a large police presence at the health insurance company. UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot to death in New York City on Dec. 4 as he was walking to an investor conference in midtown Manhattan. The man accused of killing him, Luigi Mangione, 26, pleaded not guilty in December to state murder and terror charges.
