California Governor Gavin Newsom met with President Donald Trump to talk about wildfire aid from the federal government in a meeting that lasted well into the nighttime hours.

Neither Newsom or Trump talked to reporters after the meeting. However, their discussion comes as California passed two bills aimed at ‘Trump-proofing’ the state, dedicating $50 million to fight President Trump’s mass deportation plans and to protect illegal migrants in the Golden State.

The bills were passed after Newsom called a special session. $25 million will be used for lawsuits against President Trump over the state's policies on the environment, abortion access, and LGBTQ protections.

The other $25 million would go towards legal groups to defend immigrants facing possible deportation.
