DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has asked Scott Bessent – Secretary of the Treasury to deputize some law-enforcement workers, including IRS agents, to help with President Trump’s mass deportation plan.

In a memo, Noem asked Bessent to provide agents who will investigate the movements of companies that employ illegal migrants and human trafficking networks. Those agents would be authorized to help arrest and deport the migrants.

According to the report, Noem's request is part of a larger plan to deputize law enforcement officials at different agencies including the DEA, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

There are almost 3,000 special agents at the IRS' criminal-investigation division, a 10% increase since 2022 – which is when Biden made the move to increase IRS agents by 87,000.

President Trump has made comments about sending those IRS agents to work at the border.
