On Sunday, President Donald Trump reacted to a new report from the New York Times about his tax returns. The report alleges that the President didn't pay federal taxes for 10 out of the last 15 years and only paid $750 in federal taxes in 2016 and 2017.

When asked about the report, the President decried it as fake news. "It's totally fake news," he said at the White House podium on Sunday. The president reiterated that he pays taxes but his taxes are currently under audit by the IRS. He added that "The IRS does not treat me well...They treat me like the tea party."

The president's comments about the tea party likely refer to the IRS targeting conservative organizations several years ago. The IRS eventually apologized for its mistakes.

The president's tax returns have long been a source of contention as Democrats have been urging Trump to release them for years. During the 2016 campaign, the Republican presidential candidate refused to release them arguing that his taxes were under audit. Some even speculated that Trump's taxes could reveal a connection to Russia.

In its report on NYT investigation, NPR noted that  "The Times report was explicit that it did not find any previously unknown connections to Russia, something that critics of the president have speculated would be revealed in his tax returns."
