(The Center Square) - U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper, D-Colorado, easily won reelection Tuesday with 80% of the vote.
The frequent critic of President Donald Trump defeated Republican opponent Mark Baisley, a state senator and Trump ally, as Democrats try to take back control of the Senate.
As of 7 p.m. Mountain time, Hickenlooper, a former Colorado governor, had received 190,517 votes, amounting to 80%. Baisley had 37,246 votes – a total of 15%.
During his campaign, Hickenlooper raised a little over $9.5 million, whereas Baisley raised $138,210 – 1.5% of what his opponent raised in the 2026 cycle. A majority of Baisley’s donations came from individual contributors.
Hickenlooper has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Colorado Education Association, the Brady Political Action Committee and End Citizens United. He has been critical of the Trump administration on multiple occasions, expressing that clearly against his Republican opponent in a debate covered by The Center Square in mid-October.
He previously told The Center Square, “We are in a full-blown cost-of-living emergency,” and attributed this problem to Trump’s tariffs, the conflict with Iran and Congress’ passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The senator, who voted against the 2025 law, called it the “big bad beautiful betrayal.”
Baisley had been endorsed by numerous members of the Republican party, including former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and all four of Colorado’s current Republican U.S. House members – Reps. Jeff Hurd, Lauren Boebert, Gabe Evans and Jeff Crank.
The Republican candidate has sided with President Trump on numerous occasions, explaining during the debate that he supported the entirety of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
