New York Tells Faith-Based Adoption Agency to Change Their Beliefs

The Alliance Defending Freedom asked a federal court last week to stop officials in New York from targeting a faith-based adoption provider because of its religious beliefs.
New Hope Family Services has come under fire from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services who have threated to shut them down if they do not change their policy that puts a priority on placing children in homes with a married mother and father.
According to the complaint, state officials described their faith-based policy to prefer placements with heterosexual couples rather than gay couples as “discriminatory and impermissible.”
New Hope argues it has been very clear about its beliefs to clients and has faced no formal complaints from prospective parents due to the policy.
