It’s Our War

Last Monday I asked “Whose War Is It?” deriding the use of the term “Trump’s War” that I had seen so frequently in the first days of conflict.  I haven’t seen that term much since I wrote that piece, but then I doubt I had much to do with it.  But I still have not seen this nation owning this war, and we have to – it has come to our shores.

This morning, in The Free Press comes their Editorial Board with “The Home Front of the Iran War.”  In it they look at all the inside the U.S. terror attacks that have occurred since this war began and note that each of them can be traced to roots in the Islamic Republic of Iran and its hideous ideology.  In other words, whether ordered or not, they are counter strikes in the war in which we find ourselves embroiled.  Read the whole thing.

This is our war and it is being fought to some extent on our soil.  This is not a war we can watch on TV and know it is over there.  This war is happening on our soil, in our cities and neighborhoods and if we are not careful, in our laps.

Does it take massive numbers like 9-11 to wake this nation from its slumber?  Does it take direct military attacks like Pearl Harbor to get our ire up?  Must we pit family members one against the other as in the Civil War to realize that war is upon us and we cannot avoid it?

The war is here, on this soil.  Fight we must.  Trump hatred has turned from ugly, and perhaps a form of mental illness, to simply damnable.  It is no longer a question of failing to engage with reality – it has become an effort that gets Americans and Israeli’s killed.  It has become inimical.  It attempts to justify the unjustifiable.

If we do not prevail in this war, we will have beaten ourselves.
